Location

Riga Residency is located in the mountainous Nilgiri district of Tamilnadu state, in the south Indian peninsula. This district is at the tri-junction of the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu making it easily accessible from all the neighbouring states by road and rail. Riga Residency is just 70 scenic kilometers from Coimbatore airport. 1 km from Coonoor, 16 km from Ooty. Each route is not without its own charm, and surprises lurk behind every bend in the form of cliffs, forests, waterfalls and wildlife.

By rail, Wellington is accessible through Coimbatore the nearest major Railway Station that is well connected to the rest of the country. The UNESCO World Heritage Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) is a preferred means of travel not just for the unique experience but also because Riga Residency is just 500 mts from the picturesque Wellington Railway Station.

From Mettupalayam

Drive to Coonoor. Turn right at the police beat, you will drive over a railway level crossing. Follow the traffic and then take a left towards DSSC. (If you are looking at the bus stand clock tower, you have taken a right and not the left).
Keep driving till you see the hotel towering above you to the right.

From Ooty

Drive towards Coonoor. Go past Ketti, Aruvankadu ... keep driving straight. DO NOT take the left across Manekshaw Bridge aka Black Bridge even if everyone else seems to be going that way. Keep driving till you go UNDER a railway overbridge. Look sharp you will soon see the hotel on a hilltop in front of you. Slow down and look for the Wellington Police Station (which will be to your right). Take the little lane to your left OPPOSITE the Police Station. You will drive over a tiny bridge, past a playground and uphill on a winding road past the quaint little Wellington Railway Station and over a level crossing. If you are lucky you just might see the heritage train crossing. Keep driving ... you will see 2 ways one left and the other right. Take the LEFT even though it seems to go away from the hotel. Trust me you don't want to take the shortcut unless you drive a SUV. You will reach Supply Depot. Take the immediate right that has an arch over it, you will go downhill till you see Riga Residency to your left.

Oh no! I crossed the Manekshaw Bridge what next?

Don't worry, you have chosen the route with the widest roads and you will get to see the Madras Regimental Centre, DSSC and Memorial in the bargain. You will have to pay at the toll gate, so keep some change handy.
Drive along the main road past the Military Hospital (go straight at the round about), past MRC Barracks till you reach Memorial. Ask someone or follow the signs to SUPPLY DEPOT. Don't follow the tourist traffic they will be heading to Coonoor. Enjoy the pleasant drive downhill to Supply Depot, you will see an arch ahead. Keep driving, you will see Riga Residency to your left.

From Kotagiri

Drive into Coonoor, at the Sim's Park Junction / Roundabout take the road to DSSC (ask for the road to Antony's School or Gymkhana Golf Course). You will drive past the St. Antonys School, take the right hairpin bend to Orange Grove Road, drive past the toll gate (keep some change handy) the Golf Course and further till you reach Memorial. Ask someone or follow the signs to SUPPLY DEPOT. Enjoy the pleasant drive downhill to Supply Depot, you will see an arch ahead. Keep driving, you will see Riga Residency to your left.
